Now Offering Therapy for Teens at Sweet Mango Therapy Group, Inc.

At Sweet Mango Therapy Group, Inc., we are excited to share that we are now offering therapy for teens with our newest therapist, Clarissa Jovellanos, LCSW.

Being a teen today can feel overwhelming. Many teens are navigating school pressure, anxiety, mood changes, friendships, family stress, identity exploration, and the pressure to hold it all together. Even teens who seem high functioning on the outside may be struggling internally.

Teen therapy can offer a steady, supportive space where teens feel understood, heard, and cared for. It can also help teens build practical tools to manage stress, express emotions, strengthen confidence, and navigate life’s challenges in healthier ways.

We are honored to expand our care for teens and families in our community.

Why Therapy for Teens Matters

Adolescence is a major developmental stage. Teens are learning who they are, how they relate to others, and how to cope with increasingly complex emotions and responsibilities. At the same time, they may be balancing academic expectations, social pressures, extracurriculars, family dynamics, and uncertainty about the future.

For many teens, it can be difficult to talk openly with parents, teachers, or friends about what they are going through. Therapy for teens provides a confidential and supportive space where they can process their experiences and develop coping skills that support long-term emotional well-being.

Teen therapy can help adolescents:

  • Understand emotions and stress responses
  • Build coping skills for anxiety and overwhelm
  • Improve self-esteem and confidence
  • Strengthen communication and boundaries
  • Navigate friendships and social stress
  • Process family conflict and life transitions
  • Develop healthier thought patterns and habits

Signs Your Teen May Benefit From Teen Therapy

Every teen responds to stress differently. Some become more quiet or withdrawn, while others may appear irritable, overwhelmed, or emotionally reactive. Changes can be subtle at first, and many teens try to hide how much they are struggling.

Your teen may benefit from teen counseling or therapy if they are experiencing:

  • Anxiety, worry, panic, or school-related stress
  • Sadness, low motivation, or irritability
  • Perfectionism, self-criticism, or fear of failure
  • Difficulty sleeping, relaxing, or turning off their mind
  • Social stress, friendship challenges, or boundary issues
  • Family conflict or communication difficulties at home
  • Major transitions (school changes, family changes, identity development)
  • Feeling stuck, alone, or unsure how to cope

Reaching out for support does not mean something is wrong with your teen. It means you are helping them build support early and giving them tools that can help now and in the future.

How Teen Therapy Can Help With Anxiety, Stress, and Self-Esteem

Many families seek therapy for teen anxiety, stress, or self-esteem concerns. These challenges can affect school performance, relationships, motivation, sleep, and overall well-being.

In therapy, teens can learn how to:

  • Recognize signs of stress and anxiety in the mind and body
  • Use coping strategies in real time when feeling overwhelmed
  • Challenge unhelpful thoughts and reduce self-criticism
  • Build self-trust and confidence
  • Improve communication with family and peers
  • Practice boundaries and relationship skills
  • Feel more grounded and connected to their values

Over time, teen therapy can help adolescents feel less alone and more empowered in their everyday lives.

A Culturally Responsive Approach to Teen Mental Health Support

At Sweet Mango Therapy Group, we understand that mental health does not exist in a vacuum. Teens are often navigating not only school and social pressures, but also family expectations, cultural values, identity, and intergenerational experiences.

For teens in immigrant and multicultural families, there may be unspoken pressures around achievement, responsibility, emotional expression, or being strong. These experiences can shape how teens understand stress, mental health, and asking for help.

Our approach to teen mental health support is compassionate, culturally responsive, and grounded in creating a space where teens feel safe to be themselves while honoring their lived experiences.
