Are you the child of immigrants juggling familial expectations while you explore your education, career, and social goals? Are you an overwhelmed college student who feels like you’re constantly behind? Are you LGBQ+, trans, non-binary or questioning and looking for someone who is affirming and supportive? In your relationships, do you notice painful memories from the past standing in the way of deeper connections? Do you sometimes wonder, “Am I enough?”

My name is Sabrina and I help LGBTQIA+ young adults from immigrant families find peace and confidence amidst their multi-faceted identities, life transitions, and relationships.

What to expect:

Starting therapy, especially for the first time, takes hope and courage. My style is warm, collaborative, and grounded. We’ll move at a pace that feels safe and we’ll tailor our work to your goals and strengths.

Together, we’ll work with patterns like anxiety, self-criticism, overwhelm, avoidance and procrastination, panic, sleep disruption, and trauma responses. I integrate coping skills with a mind and body approach that supports your nervous system and I’ll help you reconnect with the parts of you that feel curious, compassionate, and capable. We’ll also make space for the cultural, systemic, and historical contexts that shape your story, because your wellbeing doesn’t exist in a vacuum.

My name is Sabrina Van Zuiden (she/hers). I am a queer, multi-racial American (Filipina & white) cisgender woman, born and raised in the South Bay of San Diego. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I approach healing work by honoring the relationship between individuals, our communities, and the systems we exist within.

I received my Master of Social Work degree from Columbia University in New York and my Bachelor’s degree from UC Berkeley. Some of my clinical interests include relationships, sex therapy, trauma survivorship, and intersectional identity exploration (e.g. race, gender, sexuality). I draw from a dynamic clinical toolkit, including Internal Family Systems (IFS), Emotionally-Focused Therapy for Couples (EFT), mindfulness-based somatic therapy, and solutions-focused behavioral interventions (e.g. CBT, DBT).

My professional framework is informed by and continues to develop within the values of anti-oppression, anti-racism, decolonization, transformative justice, disability justice, reproductive justice, body inclusivity, harm reduction, gender equity, and sexual liberation.

Outside of the therapy room, you’ll find me thrifting at my favorite bookstore, singing karaoke, admiring the colorful Bay Area sunsets, or doting on my mischievous cat, Steven.
