For LGBTQIA+ BIPOC Navigating Identity and Inner Child Healing
Do you feel tension or discomfort when reflecting on your childhood or upbringing? Perhaps you find yourself struggling to navigate relationships, family acceptance, manage cultural expectations, set boundaries, or process childhood trauma.
Being an LGBTQIA+ BIPOC person is a beautiful and intersectional experience, but it’s also complex and multilayered. You may carry the weight of navigating racialized trauma, heteronormativity, colonialism, capitalism, and cultural expectations—within systems that were never designed to meet your needs.
Even with these challenges, healing is possible. There are ways to address these layers, reconnect with your inner child, and embrace joy. I am here to support you on this journey—to unpack the complexities of your identity, honor your resilience, and create a space for healing and growth.
I use a culturally responsive and anti-oppressive approach that fosters acceptance, healing, and a reimagining of what therapy can be. Together, in an inclusive and affirming space, I’ll meet you where you are, explore where you want to go, and invite the parts of yourself that you wish to nurture and embrace.
My Story
I’m Nicole “Nikki” Abeleda, and I embrace they/she/siya pronouns. I am a proud First-Generation Queer Filipinx from South Sacramento, situated on the ancestral lands of the Nisenan and Miwok peoples.
My Queer Filipinx identity has radically shaped both my life and work. As a Co-Founder of Sacramento Filipinx LGBTQIA+, a grassroots collective dedicated to uplifting Queer and Transgender Filipinx individuals, I have been honored to cultivate community, and create spaces for healing. I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Social Work (BSW) from California State University, Sacramento, and my Master of Social Work (MSW) from Boston College School of Social Work. These experiences have equipped me to provide culturally responsive, trauma-informed care that centers intersectionality and liberation.
In addition to my work as a therapist, I am a passionate community organizer and advocate for social justice. I draw inspiration from Audre Lorde’s words: “I am not free while any woman is unfree, even when her shackles are very different from my own.”
When I’m not supporting clients, you can often find me connecting with loved ones, discovering new spots for food or coffee, hiking, listening to music, playing my ukulele, or thrifting. I also enjoy tapping into my creative side through art and writing, while continually deepening my connection to my Filipinx culture.
I look forward to being a part of your liberation journey and working alongside you in your healing.
