Hello! My name is Maxine Soriano. I am Filipina American and my pronouns are she/her/hers. Both of my parents immigrated here in the 80s from the Philippines – my maternal side Bicolano/Ilocano and my paternal side Visayan. I grew up in Los Angeles and have lived in the Bay Area for over 10 years. Outside of being a therapist, you can find me reading a book, crocheting, or somewhere out on the water. 

I believe that seeking therapy is seeking change. And change can feel scary, but it can also be a chance to shake away our dysfunctional patterns and deepest fears.

As a therapist, I am deeply dedicated to creating a space where my clients can feel supported, lovingly challenged, and safe. I strive to take an approach that is collaborative, trauma-informed, culturally accountable, and strength-based. 

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, and I hold a Bachelors in Urban Studies and Planning with an emphasis on economic and housing justice and a Masters in Counseling Psychology with a certification in Trauma Intervention. I am deeply driven by my values in social justice and community – seeking liberation from oppressive systems through healing. And I believe that healing done at the individual level can lead to a radical and transformative effect on society as a whole.  

My previous work has been with children, adults and families struggling with depression, anxiety, complex trauma, substance use, mood disorders, and psychotic disorders. I have experience across various systems such as county jails, psychiatric hospitals and education.
