For the Filipina/x/o Navigating Grief
Are you feeling the weight of grief and loss, its ripple effects touching every corner of your identity and relationships? Perhaps you’re trying to honor the memory of a loved one while balancing cultural expectations, family dynamics, or unresolved emotions that leave you unsure of how to move forward.
Grief is a deeply personal journey, yet it’s one that many of us face. It often feels isolating and overwhelming—especially when layered with the unique experiences of being a Filipina/x/o American or a child of immigrants. Loss can feel like a burden too heavy to carry alone, but healing is possible.
I specialize in supporting Filipina/x/o Americans and children of immigrants as they navigate the complexities of grief and loss. Together, we’ll create a compassionate, culturally sensitive space to process your emotions, honor your loved ones, and explore how grief has shaped your life. Using trauma-informed, culturally responsive practices, we’ll address the secondary losses that often accompany grief, reframe intergenerational patterns, and build tools to support your healing journey.
You don’t have to navigate this alone. Let’s work together to help you find strength, connection, and peace in the midst of loss.
My Story
I’m Hannah Rhea Divino, ASW, an Associate Clinical Social Worker at Sweet Mango Therapy Group. I’m a proud Pinay from South Stockton, CA (Miwok territory), and a second-generation daughter of immigrants with roots in Lanao del Norte, Mindanao, and Castillejos, Zambales. My personal grief journey began with the loss of my father during graduate school, a profound experience that taught me the power of community care, therapy, and cultural connection.
Grief has profoundly shaped my life and work. As the creator of Healing Pilipinx Uplifting Self and Others (PUSO), a mental health program with Little Manila Rising, I’ve had the privilege of guiding Filipina/x/o youth and families through culturally grounded healing practices. Inspired by this work, I earned my Master’s in Social Work (MSW) and Pupil Personnel Services Credential (PPSC) from San Jose State University, deepening my commitment to serving my community.
At Sweet Mango Therapy Group, I help clients process the pain of losing a loved one, navigate the ripple effects of secondary losses, and address the tension between cultural expectations and personal healing. My healing-centered approach meets clients where they’re at and encourages self-compassion in their journey towards wholeness and inner peace. Through a humanistic and client-centered lens, I empower clients to lean into their inner wisdom and strengths as they learn tools for growing and grounding their grief.
When I’m not in session, I find healing in nature, cooking, and spending time with my partner Jay, our dog Mello, and the simple joys of life.
Grief doesn’t have to be a journey you take alone. Together, we can honor your story, reclaim your strength, and create space for healing in the spaces between loss and life.
