Hey y’all! My name is Hannah Rhea Divino and I’m a Pinay from South Stockton (Miwok territory), and a second generation daughter of immigrants, with my mother’s roots in Lanao del Norte, Mindanao and my beloved father/recent ancestor’s roots in Castillejos, Zambales in the Philippines.
If you find yourself struggling with grief and loss, caregiving, anxiety, depression, navigating imposter syndrome, healing from workplace trauma & burnout, or processing intergenerational trauma, let’s connect! I’d love to work with you to start the “heart” work of sitting with hard emotions, accepting ALL parts of yourselves, naming your needs, building boundaries, developing your authentic selves and unapologetically living the life you truly want.
My approach is client-centered and healing-centered, giving you the power to shape the direction of each session. I’m a firm believer that everyone already has the inner knowing and tools to heal and come back home to themselves. I meet you where you’re at and honor the strengths you already have. Healing comes in different forms, and I honor the benefits of both non-traditional and traditional modalities of healing, rooted in cultural & ancestral healing, faith & spirituality. I apply principles of: social justice, healing-centered care, trauma-informed care, and cognitive behavioral therapy in my practice – guiding you in re-shaping repetitive thoughts, actions, behaviors and stories that are no longer serving you.
My undergraduate education in Psychology and Sociology at UC Davis laid the foundation for me to understand the ways that unjust systems, structures, and environments play a direct role in the mental health of our communities. A lot of my experience not only comes from my educational background and community-driven work, but it’s also driven by my own lived experiences as a Pinay with experiences of mixed depression, anxiety, intergenerational trauma and still on my own grief journey.
My lived experiences and seeing other Pinays in the mental health field inspired me to leave my first job out of college, and create a mental health program in my hometown Stockton called Healing Pilipinx Uplifting Self & Others (P.U.S.O.) with Little Manila Rising. I promised myself I’d become a therapist and commit to pursuing my Masters of Social Work (MSW) while working as Healing PUSO’s Director. The journey wasn’t easy, especially losing my father the year I started grad school during the pandemic and the peak of anti-Asian violence and Black Lives Matter Movement, but I truly owe it to community care, loved ones, and my therapist for holding space for my grief. Fast forward 3 years later in May 2023, I earned my MSW with a Pupil Personnel Services Credential (PPSC) at San Jose State University, and our Healing PUSO team has made successful strides to normalize mental health struggles and increase access to free holistic health and healing opportunities through therapy referrals, culturally-rooted healing circles, college wellness workshops, free social emotional support, and Health & Healing Clinics. This field is personal for me and extends beyond myself – it’s for my family, my community & my ancestors.
Because therapy has taught me to prioritize self care, embrace all the waves of emotions in grief, speak my truth, honor my boundaries and go after my dreams in the midst of individual and collective struggle, I’m a strong advocate for therapy and I’m called to support people who are seeking a non-judgmental, safe space. Therapy can be intimidating especially when it’s your first time; some feelings of guilt may come up in the process, but I invite you to prioritize your needs not only for yourself but also for the people in your life. Self care isn’t selfish & you deserve the love and care you pour into others! Let’s work together to shift your pain into power, move from surviving to thriving & practice rest as resistance & a revolutionary act. Healing isn’t linear and easy – but you don’t have to go through it alone. Trust the process. I’ll be there with you every step of the way!
Fun facts about me: I love hiking, being in nature & the sunshine, exercising, cooking, snacking, making Spongebob references and watching silly shows like Abbott Elementary, Modern Family and Parks & Rec with my partner Jay. I’m grateful for starting my gardening era with my mama, finally being a first-time homeowner, and now becoming a dog mama to my puppy Mello!
